Our Favourite Women-Owned Businesses in Edinburgh

As a wee Scottish business, we understand the importance of celebrating cracking local entrepreneurs. And, what better time to do that than International Women’s Day – especially since women contribute a whopping £8.8 billion to the Scottish economy, yass! We asked our team to share their favourite female-owned businesses in our local communities for you to consider when you’re next splashing yir cash;  ‘

Bross Bagels

We couldn’t write a ‘hole’ (sorry!) blog on female-owned businesses, without mentioning Larah Bross’s legendary Bross Bagels. Despite having four sites across  the city, there’s always queues out the door – with plenty of locals and visitors alike patiently waiting to get their hands on Bross’s famous montreal bagels, As well as making for superb scran, the fillings in each bagel sandwich have a special connection to Larah’s upbringing in Montreal. A unique, must-eat in Edinburgh!

Mary’s Milk Bar

If we can’t convince you of the success of Mary’s Milk Bar, take a stroll through the Grassmarket on *any* day, rain or shine Owner Mary Hillard’s sweet shop stands right below Edinburgh Castle and serves arguably the best gelato in Scotland. Scoops with a side of the best city-sights; it’s definitely our favourite spot for a wee treat.

Salon 99

If you’ve ever wondered about the perfectly-styled hair on our venue pros’ heids, Salon 99 might be the answer. Highly recommended by our team, Jordan Robertson’s salon is our top spot for all professional hair and beauty services.

Framework Theatre Company

Framework Theatre Company is the epitome of what International Women’s Day is all about. Run by three amazing women, the company is on a mission to provide high quality support to emerging and early career theatre artists in Scotland. Incredibly inspiring and definitely a business worth reading up about.

Perf

Perf  is an ethical skincare company you can really feel good about buying from. Owner Sophie Amono is passionate about skincare but also giving back to the community; a portion of every product sale will be donated to charities that help support homelessness.

And we couldn’t round off the list of recommendations without a wee shout out to Kasia Neilson. Our Chief Greenkeeper and Co-Founder – Fore Play Crazy Golf wouldn’t be the best spot for a night out in Edinburgh without her. Been a while since you stepped on the green? Book a tee-time today!

See yous soon!
