5 Date Ideas in Glasgow

Date nights (and days) in the warmer months are easy to plan, aren’t they?

So you’ll need to think outside of the box when it comes to planning romantic adventures with your other half across the winter months.

Whether you’ve been with your partner for a long time and you’re looking to rekindle your relationship, or it’s back to Tinder and you’re unsure what to do for a first date, fear not – We’ve compiled 5 top date ideas in and around Glasgow this month!

Rouken Glen Park, Glasgow

1. Head out on a Winter Stroll

Okay, it might be a little chilly (or dreich), but it’s Scotland after all – So no excuse not to stick on your new boots & jacket that you got from Santa and head outdoors.

There are plenty of parks and gardens to explore in the local area, with stunning views to be found at this time of year – Why not head to Kelvingrove, Glasgow Green, or The Botanics and warm up with a hot chocolate and some cute snaps for Insta?

If you fancy venturing out a little further, then we’d recommend a romantic walk at Rouken Glen Park.

Top Tip: Remember to wrap up warm and to the conditions. If it’s icy, then it’s worth investing in some grippers for your boots, which can be easily found online.

Loch Lomond

2. Go on a Road Trip

Did you know that you don’t have to travel far out of the city to experience some of the most stunning routes that Scotland has to offer?

Glasgow is just 30-miles from Loch Lomond, with some quaint towns & villages scattered along the shores of the iconic loch – Including Balloch, Luss & Drymen. There are plenty of great spots for snaps, along with cafés serving hot chocolate, tea & coffee.  If you’re feeling brave you could even go for a wee paddle in the loch.

Up for driving a little further? Why not head West along the A82 to Arrochar (about 50 minutes from Glasgow) where you can stop off for a bit of food and admire the Arrochar Alps mountains?  We’d recommend popping in to The Slanj for a bite to eat – they also have a doggy-menu if you’re bringing your four-legged friend.

Top Tip: Prepare your car for Winter and check the forecast/ Traffic Scotland before you set off.

Glasgow Science Centre

3. Be a Tourist in your own City

You never really know what’s on your own doorstep – Make it your New Year’s Resolution to (re)discover what’s in and around Glasgow and you might be surprised at what you find!

Spend a few hours at the (completely free) Riverside Museum, highlighting Glasgow’s transport traditions with interactive exhibits; take a trip to Kelvingrove Art Gallery to admire some of the most famous pieces of art in the world, or pop in to the 5-star rated Glasgow Science Centre, with a host of mind-blowing exhibits and features – along with the tallest rotating tower in the world, which offers incredible views across the city.

The iconic Celtic Connections festival comes to the city across January as well, with visitors flocking from across the world to attend a range of Celtic themed concerts. Immerse yourself in Scottish traditional music and enjoy Stripping the Willow at a good old-fashioned ceilidh!

Top Tip: Make the most of Glasgow’s public transport system (Subway, Trains & Buses) to get around the city with ease.

4. Tour a Brewery or Distillery

Nothing will warm you up quite like enjoying a couple of drinks in a working brewery or distillery, but why not make the date even more interesting by taking a tour and finding all about how the beer or spirits are made – Every day’s a school day, right?

Tennent’s & West both offer regular brewery tours, taking you behind the scenes and teaching you all about how beer is made, whilst The Clydeside Distillery became Glasgow’s first whisky distillery in over 100 years when it opened in 2017 – with interactive tours and malt whisky tasting.

Top Tip: Research the tour you want to attend and book in advance to avoid disappointment.
